Following their Premier League victory, Hamrun Spartans released a video celebrating their massive win and unveiling all that goes on to manage the club. Joseph Portelli, President of the football club, reveals how his amazing time with the team makes him want to cherish every little moment. For Hamrun, football was described as being just as important as the local village feast which brings together all of the residents together.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic making the feast impossible, football was on everyone’s minds in Hamrun. Joseph Portelli stated that, despite the victory, he and the club still have massive goals planned out for Hamrun Spartans. Whilst welcoming the win with open arms, the team is striving to bring more trophies and achievements for Hamrun and its football history.

Migrants sleeping outside due to lack of fans in container residences

Migrants sleeping outside due to lack of fans in container residences

Asylum seekers living in Malta’s largest open centre at Hal Far have had to resort to sleeping outside due to their containers not having any fans. Being unable to buy fans for their rooms, the migrants, who are accommodated in containers that sleep four to six people, were forced to try and beat the scorching heat by sleeping outside. Malta has just gone through one of its record-breaking heatwaves, soaring as high as 41.3 degrees Celsius.

Speaking to Times of Malta, one Sudanese man living in the camp for two years stated that due to the virus, many migrants are not working and so do not have any money to buy fans. With many going to the sea or sitting under the trees during the day, the night did not provide any of them with any cool atmosphere.
