Ħamrun Spartans secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Dinamo Tbilisi to advance to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
Despite playing the entire second half with ten men due to Uros Djuranovic’s controversial dismissal, the Maltese champions managed to shut out their opponents.
Djuranovic was shown a red card after a confrontation with Dinamo Tbilisi’s coach during half-time.
With a 3-1 aggregate win over the Georgian champions, Ħamrun Spartans earned their spot in the next round. They now face a challenging match against Hungarian champions Ferencvaros.
The match saw both teams battling hard, with Dinamo Tbilisi dominating possession, but Ħamrun Spartans displayed solid defensive organization. The winning goal came in stoppage time of the first half when Uros Djuranovic volleyed a cross from Seth Paintsil into the corner.
Despite being a player down in the second half, the Spartans defended resolutely, with goalkeeper Federico Marchetti making crucial saves.
Dinamo Tbilisi launched multiple attacks but failed to break through Ħamrun’s defense, hitting the post on one occasion. Marchetti’s stellar performance secured the memorable victory for Ħamrun Spartans.
