A new study of US high school students has resulted in the finding that around one out of ten teenagers identify as gender-diverse. Referring to gender identities outside the binary framework, gender-diverse points to any gender different from that assigned at birth. Published by Pediatrics in the medical journal, the study shows that the figure is around five times higher than current national estimates.

Students were asked ‘What is your sex (assigned at birth)’, as well as ‘which of the following best describes you;’ making reference to the following – girl, boy, trans girl, trans boy, genderqueer, non binary and ‘another identity’. Students could pick more than one. In a previous 2017 version, participants were only asked about being transgender, with only ‘yes’, ‘no’ and ‘I’m not sure’ as the only possible answer. Out of 3,168 surveys, 219 participants (9.2%) reported their sexes assigned at birth as being incongruent with their gender identities.

Environment and Climate Change Minister  Aaron Farrugia announced on Facebook that 150 indigenous, or native, trees and bushes have been planted yesterday in Ta’ Qali for World Biodiversity Day. In association with Malta Football Association, the trees planted will contribute to changing the air and environment in the surrounding area and the rest of Malta for the better.

The Minister pointed out that the trees also contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, as well as making perfect pollination points for various organisms such as bees. A pollination garden was also announced earlier this week in San Gwann, which will give various opportunities to increase the Maltese ecological diversity. Happy World Biodiversity Day!

VoomQuest Powerboat Races cancellation due to health restrictions

VoomQuest Powerboat Races cancellation due to health restrictions
May 23 2021 Share

Yachting Malta Ltd announced on Facebook that due to the COVID-19 health restrictions issued by the Health Authorities, the first leg of the VoomQuest Enemed Powerboat Races will be cancelled. The sequence of events were to take place from 28th to the 30th of May and were part of a grander, very much anticipated, first edition of the Yachting Malta Race Week.

The organisation stated that it will cooperate fully with the authorities and understands the situation fully. However, they still exclaimed their disappointment in seeing the hard work ‘go down the drain.’ Thanking the stakeholders and all those looking forward to the event, Yachting Malta also looks ahead to holding the event sooner rather than later.
