The Nationalist Party has alleged that the government is trying to sweep away the problem of there being a lack of medicine stock due to them not publishing a list of the out-of-stock products for almost two months.
Opposition MPs and spokespersons Claudette Buttigieg, Ian Vassallo and Stephen Spiteri said that the provision of insulin was deemed irregular over the past few weeks and that it did not meet the needs of patients around Malta and Gozo.
The PN said in a statement that the shortage has caused anxiety in diabetic patients and they families for months. This is due to Novorapid (Aspart), which is a type of insulin crucial for diabetic patients, Creon, Latanoprost, Goserelin injections and Galvus (for diabetes type 2) are reportedly out of stock.
When the list was last published, the PN said, it showed that at least 25 medicines were out of stock. The Opposition went on to urge the government to not only be more efficient when it comes to buying and distributing medicine, but to be more transparent on the matter for the sake of patients and their families.
