On Saturday, September 7th, 2024, the Armed Forces of Malta mounted a striking Guard of Honour as part of the Victory Day celebrations.
The ceremony took place next to the Mellieħa Parish Church, adding a dignified touch to the festivities.
Victory Day, celebrated annually on September 8th, holds deep significance for the Maltese people, commemorating three pivotal moments in the island’s history: the end of the Great Siege of 1565, the French blockade in 1800, and Malta’s courageous stand during World War II in 1943.
This national holiday also coincides with the religious feast of the Nativity of Mary, known locally as “il-Bambina,” adding a spiritual dimension to the patriotic celebration.
The Guard of Honour performed by the Armed Forces of Malta serves as a tribute to the bravery and resilience that have shaped Malta’s history, reminding the nation of the sacrifices made throughout the centuries.
