Gridlock Traffic Expected Tomorrow Due To Y Plate Protest
Feb 27 2024 Share

A gridlock traffic jam is being expected for tomorrow as Y Plate Operators are set to protest.

The Light Passenger Operators Association announced a peaceful car-cade demonstration tomorrow at 8 am, starting from the Farmers parking in Ta’ Qali.

‘The gathering will take the form of a slow moving car cade , in protest of the current impositions of the Y-plate operators in the industry sector , specifically the current pricing

strategies being adopted by partner platforms impacting the sustainability of the small operator, and thus effecting the operator’s earnings.’

Y-Plate operators operate on commission with platforms. The protest calls for a review of current pricing strategies due to economic constraints.

Operators invest time, energy, and finances, facing predatory pricing and threatening their livelihoods. An exodus of operators is ongoing, prompting a plea for assistance through peaceful assembly.

SO PLAN AHEAD!

Sweden Set To Join NATO

Sweden Set To Join NATO

Sweden has overcome its final hurdle to join NATO as Hungary’s parliament ratified its bid, marking a “historic day” according to Sweden’s prime minister.

This move, spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, received relief from other alliance members. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Sweden’s imminent accession, stating it would bolster the alliance’s strength and safety.

Leaders like German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the significance of Sweden’s inclusion in enhancing Europe and global security. Following Russia’s invasion two years ago, Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO, abandoning their longstanding non-alignment stance.

Despite Finland’s earlier accession in April last year, Sweden’s bid faced delays due to Hungary and Turkey. Ankara endorsed Sweden’s candidacy last month, with Hungary’s recent approval ending over a year of frustration among NATO members.

The vote saw overwhelming support in Hungary’s parliament, with 188 members in favor and six far-right deputies opposed. With Sweden’s NATO membership on the horizon, the alliance anticipates reinforced defense capabilities and strengthened security in Europe and beyond.
