One third of Labour voters prefer Joseph Muscat to Abela

One third of Labour voters prefer Joseph Muscat to Abela
Mar 1 2022 Share

A survey commissioned by Times of Malta has found that former prime minister Joseph Muscat is the preferred choice as Labour Leader for over one-third of the voters. Muscat stepped down two years ago following scandals in relation to the Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination. However, the former leader got the approval from 36.3% of survey respondents who said they would vote Labour if an election were held tomorrow.

Robert Abela still enjoys the support of just under half of PL voters at around 47.1%. The remaining were indecisive about who they prefer, whereas 1.1% said they preferred neither. Muscat’s presence in the sense started to increase after a police search of his house last January following suspicions over corruption in a hospitals deal. The former prime minister spent a whole day campaigning for a new Labour candidates last Saturday, but has however ruled out contesting the March general election.

Muscat told journalists last Saturday that he would do what is necessary to help the Labour Party, going on to dismiss questions about whether he will be attending any events organised by the party. He said that his job is not to be in rallies but to be with the people and helping the party. Abela himself refused to state whether he agrees with Muscat attending the campaigning of other candidates.

Abela went on to say that the choice is between Bernard Grech and Robert Abela…those are the names people will have to choose from. As for the PN, Bernard Grech has the support of 71.8% of people who said they would vote PN. His predecessor Adrian Delia has around 14.1% of the support, whereas 7.1% of respondents do not know who they prefer. Another 7.1% said they prefer neither.
