Gozo Tourism Authority reports influx in bookings despite cancelled carnival

Despite public statements that Carnival 2021 is cancelled from the Nadur local council and widespread appeal for safety, the Gozo Tourism Authority reports and high demand for accommodation bookings during the carnival weekend.

Multiple searches on booking.com illustrate an influx of bookings for small groups, with many already being sold out.

Similar celebrations on New Year’s Eve, with 25,000 people going to Gozo between December 29 and 31, were followed by a surge in COVID-19 cases and record-breaking highs.

Maltese youth dies in tragic Sydney car crash

19-year-old Samuel Bartolo, a young Maltese adult residing in Australia lost his life in a tragic car accident in Sydney.

The incident occurred on Tuesday Morning after Bartolo’s car crashed head-on into a truck in Berkshire Park, where he was certified dead on site.

It is reported that Bartolo’s car had no passengers and the truck driver suffered no serious injuries.

Tributes poured in to celebrate the life of a humble individual, including relatives living in Malta.

Failed asylum seekers sent back to their country in return operation

The Malta Police Force’s immigration section has returned a number of undocumented migrants to their country in a safe and intricate return operation.

The migrants arrived by boat in the past two years and failed to qualify for asylum, initiating a complex process to confirm the safety of their return to their country of origin.

The process was aided by the foreign ministry and Armed Forces of Malta with Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealing that such returns are one of the foremost issues of the government’s migrant strategy.

Ian Borg clarifies allegations of swearing on One TV’s Pjazza

Maltese citizens woke up to mass backlash following the alleged statement made by Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg on ONE TV talk show Pjazza with Karl Stagno Navarra.

The Minister quickly took to Facebook to reveal that rather than swearing, which was alleged by Nationalist media house Net, he was saying “qalanqas… anqas, anqas…”
