Gozo minister inaugurates Gozo’s first Dog Park in Qala

On Wednesday evening, Gozo minister Clint Camilleri took to Facebook to share the news that Gozo’s first-ever dog park is finally open in Qala as part of the ministry’s development project in Ġnien il-Familja.

Camilleri stated that the park consists of two sections; one part which is dedicated to smaller dogs and the other for larger dogs. Various accessories were installed throughout the park to allow dogs to run and go about their business freely including ramps, tunnels, obstacles, a small pond and various other outlets.

The park is also equipped with a water fountain for dogs. The park will be open everyday from 7am to 7pm.

Coca-Cola manufacturers GSD Marketing and PepsiCo manufacturers Simonds Farsons Cisk have announced that they have reached their pledge to reduce sugar content by 10% by 2020.

The pledge, made to the EU Soft Drinks Associations, was realised as a result of the companies reformulation of already-existing products with low-calorie sweeteners, reduced sugars, smaller packaging with portion control and promotion of products with zero sugars in an attempt to sway consumer choice to products with less sugar.

Such a pledge was made in 2017 by both companies, with GSDM Marketing CEO Maria Micallef stating that excess consumption of sugar “isn’t good for anyone” and that they want to enable their customer to better control their intake while Simonds Farsons Cisk CEO Norman Aquilina reiterated the UNESDA pledge, expressing the companies commitment to promoting choices for a better lifestyle.

Wednesday evening’s afterparty event, which should have featured Senegalese-American singer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Akon was shut down after it was found to be in breach of COVID-19 regulations. The event forms part of the SiGMA iGaming festival and promised to bring out 500 bottles of champagne to celebrate the gaming industry’s resilience during the pandemic.

Police intervened at 12am, initially stopping further people from entering the event before going into the venue and shutting down the music and beginning to escort partygoers outside. The officials found that little to no COVID-19 restrictions were being implemented such as COVID-19 vaccination checks and limitations as revellers were directed outside Sky Club in St. Julian’s. A ruckus from inside reportedly ensued with frustrated partygoers singing and chanting as they were escorted outside.

Sky Club management told Malta Daily that the venue was entirely rented to SiGMA, going on to say that the entire venue and its operations were the sole responsibility of SiGMA.

“Overall we’re blessed that we could hold the conference and save the year, given the rising numbers across Europe and the closing of borders once again. We were lucky and look forward to SiGMA 2022 next November,” a SiGMA spokesperson told MaltaDaily.

SiGMA is one of the largest iGaming conferences in the world, which launched back in 2014 and has expanded annually into what it is today. The conference is centred around online and land-based gaming and welcomes technology organisations from around the world. Malta plays a big part in the development of this conference, partially due to its central location in the Mediterranean and its popularity for being a key hospitality and entertainment hotspot, serving as a backdrop for SiGMA’s high-end events.

Car oveturns in Mriehel bypass after intense collision

Heavy traffic and delays are expected in Mriehel after a car overturned in the Mriehel Bypass going towards Rabat. The overturning was due to a collision between a Toyota Vitz and an Audi.

Officials from the Malta Police Force and Transport Malta were on site within minutes to redirect traffic and mitigate the situation as much as possible.

Avoiding the Mriehel Bypass area is advised as further delays are expected. Malta Daily has been informed that the individuals were taken to Mater Dei Hospital.
