Sarah Everard vigil banned due to COVID-19 restrictions, judge refuses to intervene

Mar 13 2021 Share

After a dispute between protesters and Metropolitan police over whether or not a vigil for the late Sarah Everard on Saturday, a judge refused to intervene. Reclaim the Streets launched a legal challenge after the vigil to be held at Clapham Common on Saturday was banned, claiming they have a right to protest.

Sky News reports claim Met Police approved the vigil initially but changed their minds due to COVID-19 restrictions. Organisers asked High Court to make a declaration of how any ban on outdoor gatherings under COVID-19 regulations are subject to protest rights. The Judge refused to make the declaration. Protesters are still planning on holding the vigil nonetheless.
