The two Gozitan priests charged with rape and sexual abuse of a minor altar boy have been granted provisional liberty on a number of conditions.
The priests have been ordered not to speak or confront the alleged victim and will receive a two-year prison sentence or a €7,000 fine if the conditions are broken.
The case hearing is currently in progress with Magistrate Bridgette Sultana presiding.

During today’s COVID-19 press briefing, Superintendent for Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci revealed that three cases of the South African variant have been found in Malta.
Prof. Gauci revealed that an elderly woman tested positive for the variant while the other two cases are currently under investigation, going on to reveal that the individuals immediately entered quarantine.
The Superintendent also revealed that no cases of the Brazilian variant were found while 75% of the current cases are of the UK variant.

On Wednesday, the Marsascala Unit of the Malta Police Force arrested a 29-year-old after spotting a suspicious vehicle during a patrol.
The driver began to act suspicious as the police went on to search the vehicle, sustaining minor injuries due to the driver’s resistance to the police’s actions.
The police found 39 bags of what is suspected to be cocaine and MDMA, ready for trafficking and went on to find more drugs, banknotes and objects related to drug-trafficking in the man’s home.
The 29-year-old remains is currently police custody as investigations are currently under way.
