Beyond the measures announced during today’s press conference, it was announced that bars & restaurants will re-open depending on the country’s situation with regards to the pandemic.

It was also announced that the second round of €100 government vouchers will be distributed once bars and restaurants are open and granted to individuals above 16 years of age.

It was also announced that Tuesday 1st June will be a target date for the reopening of tourism and the allowing weddings, amongst other measures.

65 COVID-19 cases registered with 47 recoveries

Malta has registered 65 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,210 swab tests, while 47 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 7th April 2021, 223,020 vaccine doses were administered of which 61,111 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 29,408 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 28,463 have recovered, 400 died and 545 are still active.

Addressing a press conference today in regards to easing of COVID-19 measures, it was revealed by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent for Health Charmaine Gauci that June is the target to reintroduce weddings and tourism in Malta.

The 1st of June is a target as the easing of health mitigations will determine whether tourism and weddings will be allowed to occur by that date. The health authorities stated that depending on how the new easing of measures is dealt with, the possibilities of weddings and tourism in summer will be analysed and decided upon.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne announced that hospitalised patients with COVID-19 decreased from 140 in march to 41 in April, easing the strain on the Maltese health care system. He also announced that those in the Intensive Care Units (ITU), cases dropped from 31 in March to 15 in April, of which 8 are still active.

The vaccine rollout and the new measures has been the main source that contributed to this drop, and has thus allowed the Health Authorities to implement new health measures such as the opening of schools and allowing up to 4 people in public by 26th of April.
