In addition to the already-stacked line-up of this year’s Mediterrane Film Festival, Danish actress Connie Nielsen, most recognised from her roles in ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ will be coming to the island for the festival’s second edition.

Nielsen is set to reprise her iconic role as Lucilla in the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. Scheduled for release in 2024, the sequel promises to revisit the grandeur and political intrigue that captivated audiences in the original 2000 film.

Launching her career in European cinema before making a successful transition to Hollywood in the late ’90s, she rose to international fame with her powerful performance in Gladiator. She portrayed Lucilla, the astute and resilient sister of Emperor Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Her nuanced portrayal won her widespread acclaim and cemented her status as a versatile and compelling actress.

Beyond her memorable role in Gladiator, Nielsen has made significant contributions to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), where she stars as Queen Hippolyta, the formidable mother of Wonder Woman. She first donned the Amazonian armour in Wonder Woman (2017) and continued to inspire audiences in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).

Connie Nielsen will participate in a special Q&A session on June 24th at Forti St. Elmo, following a screening of the original Gladiator.

This event offers fans a unique opportunity to engage with Nielsen and gain insights into her experiences on set, her views on the evolving landscape of Hollywood, and her thoughts on reprising one of her most iconic roles.

The video shows the groggy fan, seemingly hungover and bewildered, as he looks around the vast, deserted stands. According to the fan’s account, he dozed off during what he described as a rather uneventful match and remarkably, was not disturbed throughout the entire night. The Arena AufSchalke staff, apparently, either missed or simply left the sleeping supporter undisturbed.

As the video continues to make the rounds online, it has drawn reactions ranging from laughter to disbelief, with many joking about the dedication required to support a team even through the most monotonous of matches. The fan’s unexpected overnight stay at the stadium has certainly added a humorous twist to England’s victory celebrations and serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and often entertaining nature of football fandom.
