Giroud becomes France’s all time top scorer

With today’s goal against Poland, Oliver Giroud surpassed Thierry Henry and is now France’s all-time top scorer!

Giroud, who at the of of 36 is probably playing his last few games for the national team, had shared the record with France legend Henry after netting a double in the defending champions’ 4-1 win against Australia in their opening Group D game.

Tributes pour in for JeanPaul Sofia

As soon as the news that JeanPaul Sofia, a 20-year-old man, was found dead in the rubble of the building that collapsed in the Industrial Zone of Kordin, many expressed their sadness and left heartfelt messages on all social media platforms.

JeanPaul was described by his friends, as a “true friend with a heart of gold”, a person who always had a smile on his face and was eager to help everyone around him.

On the other hand, the President of Malta George Vella, in a Facebook post, said that he is “Saddened by the news of the loss of 20 year old, Jean Paul Sofia.” The President offered his sincere condolences to family, friends and colleagues. He also thanked all the brave rescuers and kept his thoughts with the hospitalised workers.

The Maltese Olympic Committee also commented about the sad news saying that JeanPaul’s father was part of the MOC team for nearly 20 years “and our hearts go out to him and his loved ones in such a difficult time.”

Leader of Opposition Bernard Grech, expressed his condolences to family and friends whilst thanking the workers who carried out such a delicate operation.

Labour Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi also thanked all the workers involved and also wished well to the people who are still fighting for their lives after what happened in Corradino on Saturday.

Thousands attend anti-abortion protest

Thousands attended an anti-abortion protest organised by the Life Network Foundation, Doctors for Life and I See Life, held today in Valletta.

Demonstrators gathered to oppose against the proposed legal amendments to Malta’s abortion law.

People in attendance could be seen carrying pink placards and posters of a baby whilst calling for abortion to remain illegal in Malta.

The protest started at Pjazza Kastilja and ended in Republic Street, where multiple speakers addressed the crowd.

Bernard Grech calls for action against the introduction of abortion

Speaking at a political event, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that “the PN is calling all Maltese citizens to be a major force in favour of life.” – Bernard Grech said this when talking about the ‘abortion’ criminal code amendments being proposed by the Government. During his speech in Gudja, PN leader reaffirmed that the Nationalist Party is in favour of life, from conception to death.

Bernard Grech said that the PL Government deceived the country when saying that they “would not be introducing abortion in Malta, as they are now doing it behind everyone’s back.” He continue saying that the PN will continue to work in favour of unborn children, mothers, doctors and life.

PN leader said that “this is the moment in which history is being rewritten,” and appealed to everyone to “stand up, and not be afraid to take action in favour of life.” Bernard Grech said that Robert Abela does not want to discuss and listen to experts in the field, and explained that on the other hand the Nationalist Party will continue to  call for a mature discussion on the subject of abortion.

Bernard Grech will be joining an anti-abortion rally scheduled to be held today in Valletta, as activists continue to oppose proposed amendments to Malta’s abortion laws.
