Għaxaq Music Events has just announced the details of this year’s edition of the Summer Lust Music Festival, which will take place on Friday, 19th May and Saturday, 20th May in the village of Ħal Għaxaq.

Summer Lust will present a large number of international artists together with the best local talents. The organisers have made sure to also give local talents the opportunity to participate in this festival, which has always attracted a large audience in Għaxaq during the month of May of the last twenty years. Summer Lust takes place in Għaxaq Grounds, which is located right in the centre of the village.

Also this year, the Għaxaq Music Events will work hand in hand with a philanthropic organization. This year, donations collected at the door will benefit Dar tal-Providenza. In the last two editions, almost 35,000 euros were collected and donated to Dar Bjorn. The organizers will present this year’s donation during the Feast of St. Joseph in Ħal Għaxaq during the first week of June.

Ninetees music opens the first night on Friday, 19th May, with top international artists such as DJ Sash with his 90s hits, Ecuador, Stay, Myterious time and Sonique with their music productions Sky, Alive and It feels so good. They are joined by Ninetees singers Maria Nadler with her hits One is One and Naked and Sacred and Kirsty Hawkshaw with her hits Just Be and Fine Day. Summerlust 90’s Edition will also feature top Maltese disk jockeys Ryan Spiteri and Tenishia. All these artists will surely create a magical atmosphere, with stage effects and dancers also providing an unforgettable experience.

The hardcore Pink Floyd fans out there can look forward to a real treat a day later, on Saturday, 20th May, when The Scandinavian Pink Floyd perform again at the Għaxaq Grounds. The Scandinavian Pink Floyd Show, one of Denmark’s most ambitious and popular bands, will offer a show of legendary music combined with a unique sound and light show. The group, known for its spectacular shows, is considered one of the best tribute bands in Europe and the best tribute band in the Scandinavian countries, as their shows resemble those of the real legendary Pink Floyd.

​Pink Floyd are not only synonymous with their famous albums that brought them great success, but also with their spectacular and unique sound and light shows. The organisers are working intensively with local and Danish technicians to ensure that they produce a show that creates the right atmosphere for this concert. Matthew James will perform as a supporting act, while Ziggy will close the two-day festival with a final gig.

As always, this festival is offered free to all, because the interest of the organizers has always been to create lasting memories for all who attend. It is also worth mentioning that there will be assigned parking spaces, so that should not be a problem.

Such a festival offers not only a music show, but also promises great light shows and other effects, which together make an unforgettable evening for all participants. The festival is organised in collaboration with the Malta Arts Council.

Over 2,500 first time buyers apply for €1,000 annual cash grant since February

Affordable Accommodation Minister Roderick Galdes revealed on Wednesday that over 2,500 first-time buyers applied for a €1,000 annual cash grant. 

The scheme will see all first time buyers who bought a property since January 1st of last year and obtained a loan will be eligible to receive an annual €1,000 for 10 years. 

With the first grant issued this June, those interested will have up until the end of May to do so. 

The scheme was part of the Labour Party’s 2022 electoral manifesto, with Minister Galdes explaining how from January 1st, the housing authority registered more than 3,250 applications from people coming from different social contexts. 

Chief Executive for the Housing Authority Matthew Zerafa said that in the first few months of this year, the authority implemented with success this scheme with an efficient process so as to avoid bureaucracy and ensure no abuses.

Żebbuġ councillor Steve Zammit Lupi took to social media to announce the first of its kind in Malta bicycle repair kit. 

Zammit Lupi explained how the kit consists of various tools as well as an air pump and are available for all who make use of the alternative mode of transport to use for free. 

‘This is the first bicycle repair kit installed in the centre of a Maltese locality’ said Zammit Lupi. ‘We installed a number of racks where one can securely tie bicycles or leave e-scooters parked.’ 

The main aim of such an instalment is to both accommodate those who make use of alternative transport whilst also encouraging those who don’t to do so.

Malta launches second edition of the National STEM Awards

Malta is gearing up for the second edition of the National STEM Awards, an event aimed at recognizing and honoring individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). During a press conference, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research, and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti officially launched the 2023 National STEM Awards, which feature eight categories of awards.

 

The categories are as follows:

-Primary Class Teacher Award for Inspiring Learners in STEM
-Secondary School Teacher Award for Inspiring Learners in STEM
-Non-formal STEM Educator Award
-STEM Community Project Award
-STEAM Project Award
-Lifetime Award for Contribution to STEM Engagement
-Engaged Researcher Award
-Diversity in STEM Award

 

The National STEM Awards recognize and celebrate individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the local community by prioritizing STEM subjects. The awards ceremony is a token of appreciation for the efforts of those who have demonstrated their passion and dedication to STEM subjects, and have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the community.

Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti expressed his appreciation for the valuable contributions of the nominees, stating that they have helped to make the lives of local citizens better. He further encouraged nominees to keep up the good work, saying, “This is only an incentive to give more of what you know.”

Dr. Tonio Portughese, Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), spoke about Esplora Interactive Science Centre’s reputation for integrating science and technology into people’s daily lives. He emphasized that the STEM National Awards 2023 initiative is part of a wide range of Esplora’s activities, which are carried out in collaboration with MCST, the government, and other public entities.
