Giving his first official political speech, Ghasri mayor Daniel Attard spoke about his decision to join the Labour Party after resigning from the Opposition.

Receiving a massive applause by Labour Party supporters, Attard went on to discuss how Robert Abela’s administration looks after the underdog and the little guy.

Attard said that in his experience, the Labour Party follows a similar philosophy to his – one of cooperation, respect and love. The mayor said that Abela recognised the good in Ghasri as well as other areas, people and institutions, and strengthened all of it.

Attard had resigned from the Nationalist Party last February, just after posting a photo of himself with the Prime Minister. The rumours had already started circulating after the photo was shared to social media, culminating in Attard’s speech in the political rally in Sannat, Ghawdex.

He went on to say that Gozo’s citizens are not second class as they deserve far better than what they reserved under the Labour government. The nationalist party would go on to build a new ship to the fleet as it had previously done when the party was in government in previous years.

The leader also pledged to increase the Imġarr harbour to give more possibilities and safer infrastructure for the citizens of Gozo.

Labour’s proposed IVF amendments would be implemented within 100 days

Labour’s proposed IVF amendments would be implemented within 100 days
Mar 5 2022 Share

Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne revealed on Saturday that the Labour Party would implement its proposed legal IVF amendments within 100 days after the election if they are trusted into government.

Fearne said such amendments would give the opportunity for more couples who wish to become parents. The Health Minister went on to say that with the anticipated economic growth and the party’s already costed proposals, such a vision is possible.

The Minister called back to 2018 when the government presented legal amendments to improve the IVF procedure, aiming to give the opportunity to more couples. The party has four legal amendments proposed.

These include medication for both partners given for free as well as allowing more than three IVF cycles to be done, with the first embryo implantation to be considered as part of the first cycle. The deputy prime minister said that he is pleased when he looks at kids who have been conceived of such procedure, previously calling them little miracles.

Minister for Education Clifton Grima also gave a round up of the proposals for the education sector. He said that by making childcare services free for every child, a PL government would ensure that children are given the chance to reach their full potential.

By giving a €300 tax credit back to parents whose kids attend extra curricular activities, the government would ensure that every child can experience the joys which come from such activities. He highlighted other proposals such as the free laptop scheme, the extension of the tablet scheme as well as remarking how a Labour government would be helping by giving a basic free uniform at the beginning of every year, free internet and a pair of glasses if needed. Grima said that the total of all these proposals, together with the children’s allowance proposal of increasing it by €450 over 5 years, will cost €1540 million.
