Twenty-nine year-old man Sulemana Abdul Samed has become a solid contender for ‘World’s Tallest Man’ as he currently stands at 2.89 metres, but a logistics issue in his home country of Ghana presents a very particular problem.
Better known by his nickname ‘Awuche’ which means “Let’s Go”, the Ghanian goliath has surpassed the length of the measuring tool in his rural clinic in Ghana, which means that his height may not have been measured correctly.
Diagnosed with gigantism, Sulemana is reportedly still growing, with the clinic’s staff using a pole as an extension to their measuring scale in order to estimate his height.
To settle the debate for good, BBC reporter Favour Nunoo went to Awuche’s hometown of Gambaga to measure him with a measuring tape to find that he was 7 feet and 4 inches tall at that time.
The current Guinness World Record for world’s tallest man is currently held by 40-year-old Turkish man Sultan Kösen, who is 8 feet and 2.8 inches but as Awuche continues to grow “every three or four months”, that record may soon be broken.
