Senglea Regatta Club Claim They Were Denied Victory

Senglea Regatta Club Claim They Were Denied Victory
Apr 4 2025 Share

The Senglea Regatta Club claims it was unfairly denied victory during the Category A Regatta held on 31st March, due to multiple breaches of official rules and misconduct by rival clubs, particularly Bormla.

Senglea argues that by the end of the third race—having already won two and placed second in another—they had a 24-point lead and were on course for overall victory.

However, following their third win, Bormla allegedly obstructed the racecourse with boats and disrupted the event.

Senglea states that this protest was a direct violation of Rule 7.6, which forbids protests during the regatta, allowing only post-event complaints within 15 days.

Despite this, organisers allegedly called in the technical board—contrary to Rule 4.2, which limits such actions to extraordinary circumstances—and ordered a race to be restarted without valid justification.

The club further claims that the original race had run without interference, with all boats completing the course and Senglea declared the winner in official results.

They argue that the subsequent re-run was illegitimate and that even the rowers from Senglea, Bormla, and Birgu participated under protest, allowing other teams to win uncontested.

Senglea maintains the race outcome should stand and is taking legal action, demanding that the injustice be rectified.
