Fully vaccinated USA citizens no longer require masks

Fully vaccinated USA citizens no longer require masks
May 15 2021 Share

President Joe Biden has announced, based on CDC guidance, that fully vaccinated US citizens no longer need to wear masks in public. The US has administered more than 267 million doses, with the number of fully vaccinated people reaching up to 119 million (36.3%). This news also follows after the CDC authorised the Pfizer vaccine’s use for emergency among adolescents aged 12 to 15.

The US has had one of the highest numbers of COVID-19 cases and a death count reaching over 585,000. The vaccine rollout however has mitigated the spread as US health authorities work towards achieving herd immunity. Vaccine hesitancy also contributed to the slow progress, as people who demand the vaccine have dwindled in number, forcing many states to create incentives for citizens to get the jab.

Destiny gets a surprise visit from her mother in Rotterdam

Destiny gets a surprise visit from her mother in Rotterdam
May 15 2021 Share

As our Eurovision Song Contest 2021 ambassador Destiny Chukunyere continues her rehearsals abroad in Rotterdam, the young singer was pleasantly surprised by her loving and supportive mother. Destiny shared the experience on social media, stating that she ended the day with the best surprise ever, but was gutted by the fact that due to COVID-19 restrictions, the two could not exchange a mother-daughter hug.

Her mum was also celebrating her birthday, so it served as a double surprise for both as they expressed their appreciation of each other through the glass windows. Destiny wished her a happy birthday, and promised to make her proud both on and off the stage. Destiny will be competing in the first semi-final of the completion, with her song ‘Je Me Casse’ being a crowd favourite and constantly topping the betting boards.

Gozo named as one of Europe’s best getaway islands

Gozo named as one of Europe’s best getaway islands
May 15 2021 Share

Gozo has made international headlines as one of Europe’s best ‘secret islands to avoid the post-lockdown crowds.’ As the world is seemingly starting to get back on track with tourism post-lockdown, Malta’s sister island had been mentioned by euronews.travel as a ‘popular find with divers who relish traversing its many caves’.

Calling its various spots ‘mythical’, notable reference was made to the island’s ‘Baroque architecture and stalls that offer tasting sessions with local oils, wines and breads.’ Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo’s latest plan to pay tourists visiting the island and to stay in local hotels has also made international headlines before, with the Maltese islands seemingly gearing up for a very rich touristic summer should the epidemiological situation provide.

In what is probably one of the most touching and heart-warming videos of 2021, a video shared by San Andrea School has been making the rounds on social media after capturing a young warrior named Andrew walking into class with crutches.

8-year-old Andrew was born with what is called Spina Bifida which, amongst other challenges, means that he has very limited sensation in his lower body.

Andrew started physiotherapy when he was just 1 month old and at the age of 2, started private therapy with his physiotherapist Lorella Debono. Andrew’s mother Rachel stated that the physiotherapist’s move to her new gym ‘Walk This Way Malta’ was just the boost Andrew needed to walk into school with his crutches.

Rachel stated that Andrew will most probably continue to be a wheelchair user for the remainder of his life but highlighted that a ‘wheelchair is a means towards independence and not something that should be viewed negatively’.
