The President of the United States Joe Biden has made it official that people who are fully vaccinated can now go out in public without wearing a mask. Stating that ‘because of the extraordinary progress we’ve made in the fight against COVID-19, the CDC made a big announcement today; If you are fully vaccinated – and if you are outdoors and not in a large crowd – you no longer need to wear a mask.’ The US has administered more than 230 million doses since COVID-19 began, with 95.9 million people being fully vaccinated.

Currently in Malta, the requirement of wearing masks is a debated topic, with many asking whether people are obliged to wear them when on the beach. Masks are still obligatory in Malta as the epidemiological situation is monitored and measures adapted depending on the context. In terms of vaccinations, 50% of Malta’s adult population has been vaccinated, with 318,706 doses administer as of yesterday.

No sign of virus spread after test concert in Spain

No sign of virus spread after test concert in Spain
Apr 28 2021 Share

After Spain held a test concert in Barcelona last month, researchers found no sign of higher levels of infection among attendees. 5000 music fans participated in the event after testing negative for COVID-19. Despite six people testing positive within 14 days of the gig, the incidence was found to be lower than that seen in the general population. Of the six that tested positive, four of them were found to have contracted the virus elsewhere and not the actual event.

The rate of infection of the show, featuring band Love of Lesbian, was half the rate of people of the same age in Barcelona. Attendees wore masks but were not required to socially distance. The band itself issued a statement saying that ‘we hope that from now on, after these excellent results, the world of culture will be listened toastier it deserves to be.’

Family doctors start administering COVID-19 vaccine

Family doctors start administering COVID-19 vaccine
Apr 27 2021 Share

After a total of 106 General Practitioners applied, Malta has officially granted the permission for family doctors to start administering the COVID-19 vaccine to their patients. Should Malta be able to provide the GPS 100 doses each, this could shoot the vaccine rollout to an extra 10,000 doses every single day. Malta has both vaccinated 50% of its adult population and has over 100,000 people vaccinated with the second dose.

The vaccine rollout continues effectively with 318,706 vaccines administered in Malta. The input of GPs could boost this programme immensely and even though the health authorities are vaccinating people in the over 40 age group, the added input could speed things up indefinitely.
