Fully-vaccinated healthcare workers’ quarantine cut down to five days

Health Minister Chris Fearne announced on Tuesday that quarantine for fully-vaccinated healthcare workers has been reduced from 14 to 5. Announced in parliament, the workers will now take a swab test after five days and be allowed out if tested negative. The rule however will apply to those who have been fully vaccinated for at least a fortnight.

The majority of healthcare workers are well past the two-week point after the second shot, since they were administered the jab earlier this year. The measure will hopefully ease the healthcare system’s pressure. This also marks the first time since the start of the pandemic since the quarantine period has been modified, despite affecting only healthcare workers.

Tensions heightened today for Moviment Graffiti’s second day of protesting at Dingli construction site. Accompanied by Dingli residents and farmers, the protesters closed off the entrance gate with barbed wire and logs, with some protesters even camping in the area to remain vigilant. Infrastructure Malta returned at 8am to resume work which lead to further encounters between the two groups.

With live videos from the site showing heavy police presence to ensure safety, including due to COVID-19 mitigations, tensions heightened when one worker decided to cut into a log on which an activist was sitting with a chainsaw. Tents and carob trees were tossed aside as protesters demanded to see permits and even Minister Ian Borg. IM insists permission had been given as long as 30 trees were planted in compensation.

“One out of four adults have already taken the first dose” – Chris Fearne

In a press conference issued by Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne just a few moments ago, it was revealed than one out of every four adults have taken the first COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Dr. Fearne claimed that despite earlier concerns, “Malta is doing better than Israel” with regards to vaccinations, going on to reveal that 11% of the population have taken the first dose.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted how despite the fact that ‘thing are looking good’, citizens must remain vigilant and cautious, now more than ever.

Fearne went on to reveal how vulnerable individuals and people over 60 will all be vaccinated by the end of April.

Stephen Grey, special correspondent at Reuters, took to Twitter to reveal letters signed by Daphne Caruana Galizia bombers Albert and George DeGiorgio asking for a Presidential pardon and immunity in order to testify what they know of politicians’ involvement.

Vince Muscat, the third accused, has previously plead guilty to the crime in return for a reduced sentence.

This means that if the Degiorgio brothers are granted a Presidential Pardon and immunity, they will reveal the identity of the sitting minister alleged to be involved in a major crime.
