Minister Anton Refalo In Poland Meeting: Farming Needs Fresh Ideas To Grow Stronger

Jun 17 2025 Share

In Poland, Malta’s Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, took part in an important meeting with other EU agriculture ministers. They talked about how farming needs fresh ideas and young people to help it grow stronger.

Minister Refalo said that as the world faces big environmental problems, it is more important than ever to use new technology and smarter ways of farming. “Bringing in the next generation is not a choice anymore. It is something we must do to keep farming strong and sustainable,” he said.

He explained that young people have the energy, digital skills and care for the planet that farming needs. If more innovation happens in the sector, more young people might want to work in it.

But for that to happen, Minister Refalo said we need to make it easier for young people to get land, water and money to start their work. That is why Malta is asking the EU to let each country create rules that fit their own needs.

He also said that Europe should give better support to farmers through smart payments and rewards based on results, not just land size.

Minister Refalo finished by saying that renewing farming with young people is not just about work. It is about building a better future for everyone. He said we need to trust young people and help them lead farming in a new, better direction.
