As of January 1, the global population has reached a record 8.09 billion, marking an increase of over 71 million in 2024, according to estimates.
This 0.9% growth rate reflects a slight slowdown compared to the previous year’s rise of 75 million.
The rate of population growth also means that in 2024, every second saw an average of 4 people being born.
In the United States, the population is projected to reach 341 million, fueled by a mix of births, deaths, and international migration, with a new resident added approximately every 21 seconds.
This growth contributes to a 2.9% population increase throughout the 2020s, continuing the trend of declining growth rates observed since the 2010s.
