Four new speed cameras to be installed along Coast Road in coming days

The Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA) has announced that four new speed cameras are to be installed along both sides of the Naxxar Coast Road.

Increasing reports of traffic incidents, grievous injuries and even deaths had raised concerns and the installation of the cameras may contribute to a decrease in such incidents, with Transport Malta already approving the installation.

Recommendations for also made from a Magisterial Inquiry as well as various Maltese drivers and many will surely welcome the increased prioritisation of traffic safety going forward.


Malta to surpass 170,000 first doses with 50,000 citizens fully vaccinated

As Malta continues its vaccination programme and cautiously approaches a reality where COVID-19 may be a thing of the past, vaccination numbers continue to rise, with the island set to reach a total 170,000 vaccine doses today, 50,000 of which being second doses.

These encouraging numbers appeal to the recent uncertainty of the island, following a week-long stretch of record-high case numbers, with recent reports revealing a drop in new cases and R Factor.

During today’s media briefing, Superintendent for Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci highlighted that while the recent drop in cases is a good sign, we must remain cautious and follow health protocol.

Malta has registered 103 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,252 swab tests, while 382 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Thursday 25th March 2021, 166,104 vaccine doses were administered of which 48,933 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 28,715 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 26,480 have recovered, 382 died and 1,853 are still active.


30-year-old Eritrean man arrested over drug trafficking charges

Yesterday evening, the Malta Police Force Drug Squad arrested a 30-year-old Eritrean man residing in Imsida after being caught in possession of a considerable amount of drugs, reportedly ready for trafficking.

Following reports of suspicious activity, the Police followed the man until stopping the man in Imsida to search him, only to find 60 packets of a substance suspected to be cannabis, ready for trafficking.

After searching his residence, the man found more of the substance, objects related to drug trafficking and a substantial number of banknotes.

He is expected to appear in court at 1:30pm today to appear in front of police magistrate Dr. Caroline Farrugia Frendo LL.D with accusations relate to this case and others.
