Over 500kg Of Fishing Lines Collected In Coastal Clean Up

Over 500kg Of Fishing Lines Collected In Coastal Clean Up
Aug 22 2023 Share

A joint effort by the environmental NGO ‘Coast is Clear’ and ‘The Convenience Shop’ successfully concluded the summer sea and coastal cleanup activity.

‘Coast is Clear is an NGO dedicated to protecting our seas and coastlines from pollution, and its partnership with The Convenience Shop reflects a shared vision of safeguarding marine ecosystems for future generations.’

‘Under the guidance of Mark Galea Pace, founder of Coast is Clear, the diverse crew composed of individuals from various nationalities but all part of The Convenience Shop Group, embarked on their clean-up maritime mission. This multinational team collaborated seamlessly to target areas near the shore that are inaccessible by land, as well as strategic locations where sea currents notoriously accumulate waste.’

‘During the cleanup, over 500 kilograms of fishing lines and 16 bags of debris were painstakingly collected and removed from the sea and seashore. The recovered waste encompassed a range of discarded items, including torn nets, tyres, plastic containers, and various single-use plastics.’

The collected waste was disposed of responsibly, with the clean up highlighting the concern of ghost nets, which are abandoned and lost nets which continue to pose a serious threat to marine life.

Our next guest for ‘Think or Ink’ was local rapper Owen Leuellen, who was subjected to a fun trivia time with our host Amy Borg.

As with last time, which saw Chef Daniel Borg Cardona tattooing a MaltaDaily logo, Owen had to answer various questions and, depending on how many he got wrong, he’d have to get the respective tattoo.

The music artist ended up walking out of Black Dahlia with an iconic local pastry – a pastizzi.

Of course, we don’t know whether Owen imagines it to be a ricotta or pizelli pastizzi, but we thank him for being such a great sport!

Stay tuned for more of ‘Think or Ink’.
