Former Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil was spotted during the Opposition’s mass rally on Sunday.

A photo uploaded by Sliema mayor and PN Candidate Graziella Attard Previ showed the ex-nationalist leader Simon Busuttil at the event.

Despite surveys showing a landslide victory for the Labour Party for the third time in a row, the snapshot of Busuttil is prompting many to think that current leader Bernard Grech has at least reunited the party.

This is due to the Nationalist Party being quite internally split, with factions forming around specific ex-leaders. This followed disagreements between Busuttil and other former leader Adrian Delia.

Grech had previously stated that his mission was to unite the party as otherwise it would never stand a chance to regain the people’s trust. He had also emphasised that disciplinary action would be taken following certain comments on social media.

Grech also sought to revitalise the party by bringing in fresh blood, with the youngest candidate in Maltese history Eve Borg Bonello contesting the polls with the PN.

The men were arrested at around 5am on Saturday morning, with the theft taking place between Thursday and Friday. The two allegedly returned to the warehouse the following day to steal more toys, leading to their apprehension.

The men also pleaded not guilty to an attempted robbery from a residence in Triq Salvu Bonanno in San Gwann in the afternoon of March 9th. Magistrate Ian Farrugia denied their request to be released on bail and the two were remanded in custody.

One of the men was charged with the theft of tools from the new Malta Business Registry building in Zejtun on Saturday morning, as well as breaching bail over two other cases. The other was charged with committing a crime while on bail over a different case.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wins first race of the season

Mar 20 2022 Share

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has won the 2022 season opener in Bahrain. To put the cherry on the cake for Ferrari fans, Charles’s teammate Carlos Sainz managed to end the race in second position making it Ferrari’s first 1-2 since Singapore in 2019 ,with Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen as drivers.

The race exceeded expectations with it having many twists and turns. Red Bull coming into this weekend where viewed as the favourites but unfortunately for them 3 of the 4 Red Bull powered engine cars failed to complete the race. Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and sister team Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly all had engine pump issues that forced them to retire from the race. Verstappen was in second place battling Charles Leclerc when the issue came up.

Mercedes’s duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had a surprisingly successful end to the weekend. Following Max’s and Sergio’s retirement, the German team managed to finish the race in an impressive p3 and p4 with Lewis Hamilton grasping the final podium place. This came to a surprise for many fans after their lackluster practice and qualifying performances.

The two other Ferrari powered teams of Haas and Alfa Romeo surprised a lot of people with Haas’s Kevin Magnussen finishing in p5 whilst both Alfa Romeo drivers Valterri Bottas and Zhou Guanyou finishing in the points. Magnussen has only been with the American team for a handful of weeks following their controversial dismissal of Russian Nikita Mazepin.

British megateam McLaren were the most disappointing team of the weekend. Both of their cars didn’t look fast enough in both qualifying and race pace. Lando Norris who started the race in 13th place ended up in 15th whilst Daniel Ricciardo who started the race in a disappointing 18th, finished the race in 14th. It is being reported that this bad performance was due to broken breaks.

There are marketing tactics… and then there are marketing tactics and a local pizzeria has embraced the recent distribution of tax refund cheques with a cheeky ad promoting their latest offer.

Coronations, based in Xagħra Gozo, posted a photo of the tax refund cheques captioned ‘Tax Refund? More like FREE PIZZA’, going on to promote their limited time offer of a free pizza with an order of two other pies, available from Monday to Thursday.

Unfortunately, a recent post on their Facebook page suggests that the 2+1 offer is no longer available, so we’ll just have to wait for the next cheeky ad from this Gozitan restaurant.
