Former PM Alfred Sant shares Gozo over-development concerns

Former PM Alfred Sant shares Gozo over-development concerns
Aug 14 2022 Share

Taking to social media, former prime minister Alfred Sant voiced his opinion, which coincided with that of many, that there is massive worry about Gozo’s over-development.

Opposing the airport and tunnel linking Malta to the sister island, Sant’s concerns come after a survey found that all of the participants from various industries on the island felt that the island is losing its charm due to over development.

On a Facebook post, Sant said that the island is becoming like a smaller version of Malta and is losing the attractions which once drew visitors to it. He placed his finger on a whole list of ‘ambiguous intentions’ involved.

‘I cannot understand, for example, how serious tourism promoters in Gozo started to worry about this over-development but at the same time favour the monstrous project which has seemingly gone back onto the shelf – the tunnel between Malta and Gozo.’

He also highlighted how these same ambiguous intentions also back up the airport project which according to Sant, reemerged when it should have been put aside completely.

One of Malta’s very first Instagram personalities Daniel Azzopardi took to social media to discuss how being comfortable with oneself solo can heal, despite the misconceptions about it.

The four time award winning digital creator got up and personal with one of his latest postings, marking 10 years of doing ‘this social media…thing.’

He explained how throughout the years, a common message he received concerned his spending time solo – either going for a coffee, travelling around the globe or dining by himself.

The messages expressed various reactions to doing so, some asking him about how weird this all is and others applauding him for his courage to do so.

‘All my life I struggled to make connections. I was always the loner/outsider/weirdo which in turn made me look for happiness in friends and relationships and depend on it.’ Saying that doing so is okay unless one is highly sensitive, he decided to make it a point to enjoy his own company.

‘Now that somehow makes me a better and happier person when I am with my friends and loved ones.’

‘For a lot of people this solo thing is weird. For me, it was healing’ concluded Azzopardi. Do you enjoy spending time by yourself?
