Food does not only affect physical health, but also mental health

Food and mental health go hand in hand and a bad diet does not only affect the physical aspects of one’s being but also the mental aspects.

The intestine, which is the body’s digestive system, is an extensive organ which few know the relevance to mental health. Practicing health psychologist Danica Cassar stated that anxiety, which is a common reaction, may be triggered by the digestive system.

Cassar stated that the stomach is like our ‘second brain’, with which we feel certain emotions and thus, there is communication between the brain and the stomach. This means that food and consumption may affect mental health, so excessively sugary food, excessive smoking and alcohol may decrease the bacteria within the stomach which protects us from being anxious, stress and upset.

A recent survey conducted by MaltaToday has revealed that the Nationalist party has suffered another decline in support over the past month, creating a 16-point gap between the PN and the Labour Party.

The survey, conducted in October, shows the PN at 27.3% and the Labour Party at 43.2% with the former seeing a decrease by four points since September and the later undergoing a decrease of less than one percentage point. ADPD grew by 0.4 points since September, putting the party at 1.6%.

Family cooks wraps for Puttinu despite grieving loss of son

Despite having just lost their beloved son a few days ago, Antoine and Solange Magri decided to repay Puttinu Cares’ staff for their help by cooking wraps for them and the kids. Antoine previously posted to social media expressing his sorrow but also support to his wife as they grieved the loss of Juan. Antoine said that the pain goes away but the memories remain. ‘It takes time to understand, why things happen’ said Antoine, but said that now Juan will be given all the love and affection by his grandfather Toni as he awaits him at heaven’s door.

The couple mustered their courage and gratitude and repaid the caring nurses and staff at Puttinu Cares, who shared their sorrow with the family. The NGO thanked the couple for its generous act, making countless children in the Rainbow Ward happy, despite what they are personally going through. This is truly a showcase of how courageous and loving human beings can be.
