The first turtle nest for this summer has just been found at Ramla l-Hamra in Gozo by a Wildlife Rescue Team Malta volunteer by the name of Serena.

Taking to social media, the ‘eggciting’ news was announced by the rescue team, saying that this comes after weeks of daily night patrols and morning checks.

Coordinators from Nature Trust – FEE Malta as well as ERA officials were all called in to inspect the area and confirm that this is in fact a turtle’s nest. ‘The area will be monitored 24/7 for the coming 2 months’ until the hatchlings start to emerge.

The group also offers people the chance to volunteer and care for, or search for, turtle nests. ‘Patrols on other beaches will still continue as nesting season is not yet over.’

‘Anyone spotting a turtle on a beach, please call us immediately on 9999 9505, do not use flash, do not touch the turtle, and give her at least 5-10m of space.’

Half of Gen Z prefer to search on TikTok or Instagram instead of Google

Half of Gen Z prefer to search on TikTok or Instagram instead of Google

It seems as though the internet-age adage ‘Google It’ might soon change to ‘TikTok it’ as many from Gen Z prefer to use the latter app, or Instagram, to search for information.

New data has revealed that nearly half of Gen Z mobile users turn to the social media apps instead of Google, with 40% saying they already do so.

By Gen Z we mean the generation of people born in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it could only be wondered what the next generation, known as Generation Alpha, would be using.

TikTok is currently the fastest growing social media platform and has massively increased its user base in the last few years. This prompted other apps to take its approach, including Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

Google senior vice president Prabhakar Raghavan told Fortune Brainstorm Tech that when Gen Z are looking for, say, a place to have lunch, they will go to TikTok or Instagram.

Google also confirmed the statistic to Insider, saying that they face robust competition from an array of sources. The search giant is also attempting to finding new ways to bring in younger generations through innovations in camera technology.

A road in Ghajnsielem has been temporarily closed to traffic after a portion of the street collapsed, creating a large pot hole.

One driver was left slightly injured with back pain and a mild shock as they drove along the road when the incident happened. The road in question is Triq Wied Rghajjes.

Photos were uploaded by the Ghajnsielem local council to show people the hazard and thus avoid the area. The hole also reveals a stormwater culvert.

Due to a road closure in the Qala Road junction, Triq Wied Rghajjes saw more vehicles passing through than usual. The local council gave special thanks to the Ministry for Gozo and Minister Clint Camilleri for offering immediate assistance.
