The first trailer for the Home Alone reboot called Home Sweet Home Alone has dropped and fans are getting some nostalgic excitement. Set for release on the 12th of November 2021, the adventure comedy stars Archie Yates as the lead boy Max Mercer who gets left behind as his family jets off to Japan for their holiday.

The house is subsequently infiltrated by a couple played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney who are attempting to make away with a priceless heirloom. The film seems to be giving a couple of nods to the original Home Alone franchise. Even original actor Macauley Culkin is set to make a cameo appearance, but it is as of yet unconfirmed.

Of course, the reactions were mixed. Some are praising it for its stellar cast whilst others just want classics to be left untouched. We’ll have to see if this movie lives up to the expectations, whether it creates something new or whether it was better to not touch the franchise at all.

Charmaine Gauci asked about maskless politicians during Budget

Charmaine Gauci asked about maskless politicians during Budget

Superintendent for Public Health Charmaine Gauci was asked by newsroom Times of Malta about why children in school are masks whereas politicians in parliament were not. Gauci avoided criticising politicians who sat for the Budget speech without wearing a mask despite public health measures. The speech lasted for nearly two-and-a-half hours, but many MPs, except for the likes of Chris Fearne, could be seen sitting maskless.

Gauci insisted that wearing masks is crucial to protect others, despite declining to comment on the politicians’ lack of masking. With the measure being mandatory in all workplaces and indoor public spaces, masks could only be removed while eating or making public speeches. Most MPs on the Opposition side were seen wearing their mask, and many took to social media to express their disappointment in some politicians not doing so. Gauci did however focus on studies to take place which will determine whether masks will be required for the next school term.

This is the love story to beat. Khoirul Anam thought he had finally found his soul mate in the form of a rice cooker. Now despite knowing people who are obsessed with using such equipment, Anam, from Indonesia, went far from the extra mile as he threw a full blown ceremony for his and his beloved rice cooker’s wedding. He threw a veil over it and declared his love for the machine.

Photos posted to Facebook show Anam signing documents and kissing the rice cooker to seal the deal. ‘White, loving, obedient… without you my rice is not cooked’ he posted. However, the groom updated everyone four days after the wedding, stating that he had decided to call it quits on the marriage. This is because, get this, the rice cooker only cooks rice. We’ll see if Anam, or the rice cooker for that matter, will find a new love. The question is whether Anam will feel awkward opening his kitchen cupboard seeing his ex in there…

Mater Dei currently has no COVID-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit, with 7 patients being treated for the virus at the hospital.

On the 13th of October, 18 new cases of COVID-19 were registered, along with 13 new recoveries. Malta has 285 active cases and has had a total of 459 deaths.

As of yesterday, 844,723 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered. Of these, 27,409 were booster doses.

The health ministry had revealed that the focus had shifted from the number of cases and onto the number of hospitalisations. The vaccine rollout has largely contributed to the lower number of cases and the easing of measures.
