American scientists have successfully completed a trial of male contraceptive pills on humans. Despite such contraceptive measures being common for women, men will soon be able to contribute in their own way so as to avoid any unwanted pregnancies. When used for a month, the levels of two hormones needed for sperm production dropped drastically. With 40 participants used a pill daily for a month, with 10 of the men picked at random to take a placebo.
Most men in the trial did not have any side effects, and the few who did reported fatigue, acne and headaches – which are side effects women using contraceptive pills are all too familiar with. Five of the men reported a slightly decreased sex drive and two reported mild erectile dysfunction which somehow did not affect sexual activity. All safety tests were passed with side effects reversing after the pill was stopped. None of them allegedly stopped taking the pill as a result of the side effects. Despite further tests being required, it was shown how the pill decreases sperm production whilst preserving libido.
