Malta has registered its first case of monkeypox, the Health Ministry revealed on Saturday.
The individual concerned is a 38-year-old man who recently travelled to a country which had already detected a number of monkeypox infections.
The man showed slight symptoms and remains in isolation as he does not require hospital treatment; monkeypox symptoms include fever, headache, swollen glands, back pain, muscle pain, chills and lethargy as well as a potential rash on the face.
Good hand hygiene is being recommended by the hand authorities, especially if in contact with a potentially unwell individual.
