Even though it will not be administered to patients just yet, the first batch of the one shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine has arrived in Malta. The vaccine was set to start being used this week upon arrival but was paused by Malta, the EU and US due to blood clot concerns.

The European Medicines Authority (EMA) is currently investigating the incidents of blood clotting, with a research based answer being provided in the coming days. The authority still claims that the benefits of the vaccine in preventing COVID-19 far outweigh the side effect risks. How the batch made its way to Malta is unclear as the pharmaceutical company stated it was delaying shipments until EMA approved the jab.

Disney theme parks will allow staff to have visible tattoos and to wear gender-inclusive costumes in a new policy. Chairman Josh D’Amaro stated in a new post on the company’s website that the new policy will help create ‘a place where everyone is welcome’ and ‘create magic for everyone’. The new approach seeks to provide greater flexibility with ‘respect to forms of personal expression surrounding gender-inclusive hairstyles, jewellery, nail styles, and costume choices.’

Disney previously held strict rules on how workers look – beards were not even allowed until 2012. The chairman also stated that they are reimagining may attractions like Jungle Cruise. ‘There’s more to do’ he said, ‘but we’re committed to listening, learning, and making meaningful improvements.’

As the weather grows warmer and vaccination rates steadily increase, beaches and other popular attractions throughout Malta are once again experiencing packed crowds.

Photos surfacing online shows large crowds descending upon tourist hotspots such as Golden Bay to celebrate the weekend.

It is however important to remember that health measures are still in place; People can only be in groups of 2, unless they are from the same household. These health measures were put in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. It does seem nonetheless that the measures are bing adhered to as daily cases have dropped significantly.
