Fines For Depositing Waste In The Wrong Bags As Of October 15th

Fines For Depositing Waste In The Wrong Bags As Of October 15th
Oct 13 2023 Share

From Sunday 15th October, individuals and businesses caught depositing waste in the wrong waste bags will be liable to fines of up to €150, as the six-month educational period on the new mandatory waste separation regulations ends this week.

In the coming weeks, ERA officials and other enforcement officers will be continuing inspections across Malta and Gozo, to ensure that households and businesses are separating waste properly in the three waste bags specified by law – the white bag for organic waste, the grey or green bag for recyclable waste and the black bag strictly for other waste.

Enforcement officers are authorized by law to check bags taken out for collection by households and businesses, and to issue warnings and fines when waste items are found in the wrong bag:

Households:

1st Offence – Official Warning

2nd Offence – €25

3rd Offence – €50

Businesses:

1st Offence – Official Warning

2nd Offence – €75

3rd Offence – €150

From July 2024 transparent black bags will become mandatory instead of the current black bags for municipal waste collection, making it easier for enforcement officials to check the content of bags without opening them.

Meanwhile, separate fines of €150 continue to apply for persons taking out waste bags on the wrong day. In January, regional councils launched a new municipal waste collection schedule for all localities. Organic waste bags are collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while black bags are collected on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Grey or green bags for recyclable materials are collected every Thursday. Glass is collected on the first and third Friday of the month.

Mandatory waste separation regulations were introduced in Malta last April, as ERA launched a six-month educational campaign to help the public gradually adapt to this new waste management system. During the last six months, ERA enforcement officers conducted more than 2600 inspections in different localities to ascertain compliance with national waste schedule and educate on waste separation.

ERA encourages everyone to properly separate waste, to contribute to a more sustainable future and avoid the consequences of non-compliance. By properly separating waste, households, businesses, government entities and other organisations can help increase the sustainable management of waste, to be recycled or processed to generate clean energy, while reducing the negative impacts of landfilling on the environment.

Through the Long-Term Waste Management Plan 2021-2030, Malta is working to reduce landfilling to 10% of total municipal waste by 2035.

Netflix To Open Stores With Show Merch & Games In 2025

Netflix, once known for mailing DVDs, is now venturing into brick-and-mortar retail with “Netflix House” stores.

These locations will sell merchandise from popular Netflix shows, offering fans a chance to get items like themed coffee mugs. In addition to shopping, Netflix House will provide dining experiences and curated live events.

The inaugural stores will feature an obstacle course inspired by the hit series “Squid Game,” even though this may diverge from the show’s original satirical intent.

The stores will feature rotating art installations based on beloved shows, and serve cuisine and drinks featured in the streamer’s unscripted food reality programs, ranging from casual to high-end dining.

The first two US locations are slated to open in 2025, with plans for more global outlets later on. Netflix aims to elevate customer immersion in the worlds of its movies and shows.

While Netflix has previously experimented with pop-up experiences for specific shows, Netflix House will encompass the entirety of its content library. Details regarding menus, locations, and other specifics are still being finalized for the venture, which is set to launch in over a year.

Equality & Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines Published
Oct 13 2023 Share

The Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality, Rebecca Buttigieg, along with Permanent Secretary Ewlieni Tony Sultana, outlined guidelines on the principles of Equality and Gender Mainstreaming.

Parliamentary Secretary Buttigieg explained that these guidelines are intended to concretely strengthen gender equality principles, ultimately making them a part of our society’s culture. She stated that this is a crucial step towards achieving true equality in our country.

These guidelines identify sectors in which the government, individuals, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to take daily steps to address disparities leading to unequal treatment between genders.

Parliamentary Secretary Buttigieg emphasized that these guidelines focus on ensuring participation and visibility for all genders in meetings, events, relationships, publications, advertising, and public procurement. She added that the guidelines also call for greater sensitivity to gender in spoken and written language.

“The choice of these sectors was made after careful consideration because all of these impact society’s perspective and dimension of equality,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Buttigieg.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Service Tony Sultana expressed satisfaction that the immediate guidelines were issued following extensive consultation with various entities including the National Statistics Office (NSO), the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE), and the Advisory Council for Women’s Rights, along with his office. He noted that diversity and different cultures in workplaces have led to significant results.

“This is a Public Administration that we are working towards. A barrier-free Public Administration where everyone works synergistically. Commitments outlined in these guidelines are not just on paper, but we continue to implement them in our daily practices,” stated Mr. Sultana.
