Final Four Showdown to Decide Inaugural 360 Sports Malta Premier League Title

May 1 2025 Share

The first-ever season of the 360 Sports Malta Premier League will be decided through an exciting Final Four play-off, after Floriana were denied the title on the final day of the regular season.

The Greens needed a win against Birkirkara at the National Stadium to secure the championship, but a 1-1 draw, coupled with victories for both Ħamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers, means the title race now heads into a dramatic post-season.

Floriana had topped the Opening Round Top 6 but dropped to third place in the Closing Round, setting up a semi-final clash against Ħamrun Spartans. The Spartans endured a slow start, finishing fifth in the Opening Round, but bounced back strongly to claim second place in the Closing Round after a hard-fought win over Marsaxlokk.

The second semi-final will see Sliema Wanderers take on Birkirkara. Sliema had a consistent campaign, finishing third in the Opening Round and then going on to win the Closing Round. Birkirkara, meanwhile, were runners-up in the Opening phase but struggled in the latter part of the season, eventually dropping to fifth place.

With all four teams showing flashes of brilliance, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the league’s inaugural edition.

Freeport Dock Worker Arrested in €2 Million Cocaine Bust

May 1 2025 Share

A 37-year-old man from Xgħajra has been arrested following the discovery of 35 kilograms of cocaine at the Malta Freeport. The arrest came as part of a joint surveillance operation conducted by the Malta Police in collaboration with Freeport security personnel.

At around 5:45am on Wednesday, authorities intercepted a vehicle exiting the Freeport as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected drug trafficking. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found approximately 7kg of a substance believed to be cocaine. Further searches within the Freeport premises uncovered an additional 28kg, bringing the total seizure to 35kg, with an estimated street value of €2 million.

Police believe the man, who is employed at the Freeport, removed the drugs from a shipping container. The narcotics were allegedly being stored with the intention of being smuggled out in smaller quantities over time.

A magisterial inquiry, led by Magistrate Ian Farrugia, has been opened, and investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the operation and any potential accomplices.

The suspect is set to appear in court on Thursday at around 11:30am, where he will be arraigned before Magistrate Astrid May Grima to face drug trafficking-related charges.

Malta Commemorates 21 Years Since Joining The European Union

May 1 2025 Share

Twenty-one years ago, the European Union experienced its largest enlargement to date, welcoming ten new countries: Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary.

Malta had marked this historic occasion with a night of celebrations around the Grand Harbour, as the country embraced a new chapter in its national story.

This enlargement stands out not only because of the number of countries involved but also due to the population size it brought into the EU.

It was also the year Malta elected its first five Members of the European Parliament, gaining a stronger presence within the European legislative framework.

This landmark moment deepened Malta’s connection with the rest of Europe and paved the way for new opportunities in education, mobility, commerce, and international relations.

This wave of enlargement has also been advantageous for the EU as a whole, contributing to its growth and integration. It remains a key moment in European history, marking a period of hope, unity, and shared progress.

La Voix Harmonies tried their luck with a rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, whereas Kurt Anthony took on Bruno Mars’ ‘Grenade.’

Unfortunately for the panel judges, it wasn’t enough to earn them a spot in the next round. Do you agree with these eliminations?

Brillanti Singers will be back next week on ONE as the search for the title of BRILLANTI continues!
