For the first time, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) will host the Final Four of the Men’s Water Polo Champions League from June 5 to 7 at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq.
Malta was chosen after the ASA’s application met all the European Aquatics Federation’s requirements, with support from the Maltese Government, SportMalta, and VisitMalta.
Education and Sports Minister Clifton Grima highlighted this achievement as a positive result of the government’s collaboration with sports associations, emphasizing Malta’s professionalism and high-quality sports infrastructure. Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo noted that hosting this international tournament will attract high-quality athletes and visitors, boosting sports tourism and visibility for the Maltese Islands.
The championship, which began in 1963, is the most prestigious competition for European professional water polo clubs. This year’s Final Four features Pro Recco (Italy), Novi Beograd (Serbia), Ferencvaros (Hungary), and Olympiacos (Greece).
A sports village will be set up at the National Pool entrance to enhance the spectator experience, opening at 17:00. The semifinals will take place at 19:00 and 21:00, with the third place match and final on June 7 at the same times.
The event will be broadcast on several international television networks and amplified through social media to reach a wide European audience, with five international broadcasters confirmed.
