‘Shame on Dry Land’, a film co-produced by local Film Production Company ‘Pellicola’, will finally premiere locally on the 18th of March.

The film is a gripping redemption drama skilfully directed by director Axel Petersen.

Set against the captivating backdrop of Malta’s sun-soaked landscape, the film delves into the intriguing world of the Swedish online gaming community, revolving around the enigmatic figure of Dimman, an exiled lottery swindler.

“Shame on Dry Land” stands as an official Sweden-Malta co-production, with co-producer of the film and owner of Pellikola Owen Mallia expressing his satisfaction at the announcement of the film’s selection to premiere at the 48th edition of the prestigious Toronto Film Festival last year.

TikTok Could Be Banned In The US

TikTok Could Be Banned In The US
Mar 14 2024 Share

The US House of Representatives recently approved a significant bill that could potentially result in the banning of TikTok within America.

The legislation requires ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to divest its controlling stake within six months, failing which the app would be blocked in the US. Although the bill garnered bipartisan support in the House, it must still navigate the Senate and gain the president’s signature to become law.

Concerns over Chinese influence on TikTok have long troubled lawmakers. ByteDance, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Beijing with registered offices in the Cayman Islands, operates globally, including in Europe and the US.

President Joe Biden has indicated his willingness to sign the bill if it reaches his desk, potentially straining diplomatic relations with China.

Notably, the forced divestiture would require approval from Chinese authorities, who have expressed strong opposition.

Republican lawmaker Mike Gallagher emphasized the national security risks of allowing a Chinese-controlled platform in the US. Despite TikTok’s assurances of data security measures, reports suggest data leaks between US and Chinese operations, fueling concerns about privacy and national security.

First Pro-Choice Speech At EU Parliament By Maltese MEP

First Pro-Choice Speech At EU Parliament By Maltese MEP
Mar 14 2024 Share

Maltese MEP Cyrus Engerer has become the first to address the European Parliament with a pro-choice speech.

Cyrus recounted the anonymous stories of various young women whose lives were put at risk due to not being able to have an abortion or did so unsafely – and illegally.

One woman recounted how she could not get chemotherapy for cancer because she was pregnant, meaning that she would have had to sacrifice her life for the foetus’s life.

After other anecdotes, the MEP explained that if the women speak up they receive 3 years imprisonment for the crime of abortion.

‘500 women per year in my country have illegal, unsafe abortions at home alone’, said Engerer. ‘Bodily autonomy is fundamental for everyone’.

‘Today is the 14th of March 2024, and this is the first speech by a Maltese in this parliament in favour of choice for everyone’, finished the MEP.

First thing’s first: if you’re not wearing green, are you even celebrating? But why stop at just a green shirt when you can embrace the full spirit with a top hat, a big red beard, or even fairy wings? Dressing up adds an extra layer of fun to the festivities and makes for fantastic photos. Remember, the bolder, the better!

2. The Heart of the Celebration: St. Julian’s

It’s the perfect setting to share a laugh, enjoy some hearty Irish fare, and maybe, just maybe, find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

4. A Jig to Remember

No St. Patrick’s Day in Malta would be complete without the heart-pounding, foot-tapping rhythms of traditional Irish dance. As the streets are awash with green, a special kind of magic comes alive through the art of dance. It’s a spectacle of coordination and energy, with each dancer perfectly in sync, their feet moving in complex rhythms that seem to defy possibility.
