The Qatar World Cup has been a journey of shocking moments, controversial situations and interesting characters. However, beyond the showmanship and social media, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has called the opening stages of the global tournament as the ‘best ever’.
The eight group-stage matches saw record-breaking attendances and television ratings from fans around the world, with Infantino highlighting the fans’ passion towards the competition.
“I have seen all the matches, indeed, and put very simply and very clearly, this has been the best group stage of a FIFA World Cup ever. So, it’s very promising for the remainder of the FIFA World Cup,” he stated.
Infantino went on to argue that the concept of ‘small’ and ‘big’ teams is a thing of the past, with a very equal level seen from the participation of national teams from all continents going to the World Cup’s knock-out phase for the first time ever.
