Apr 4 2023 Share

Passengers travelling through London City Airport will no longer have to limit liquids to just 100ml in hand luggage, thanks to newly introduced high-tech CT scanners at security.

The move will come into effect today and comes after the UK government set a deadline (June 2024) for most UK airports to install the machinery.

The tech will also mean that passengers will no longer have to remove tablets, laptops and other electronic items from their hand luggage for security checks.

The CT scanners will high resolution 3D images to check hand luggage and clothing for potentially dangerous items. Passengers can now take up to two litres of liquid in their hand luggage.

The 100ml rule dates back to 2006 after a terrorist threat led to airports forcing passengers to place liquids in a clear plastic bag. This was aimed at stopping liquid explosives from being carried onto planes.

Trials of the new technology have reportedly been conducted at some airports and it showed the effectiveness of the equipment. They are already used in airports such as Schiphol in Amsterdam.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper said that most major airports will roll out the new technology this year. Customers were still warned to check the return rules for carrying liquids at any airport.

Google Flights is currently testing a new program which will ensure that you are guaranteed to book the lowest price for your flight.

The platform is rolling out a brand new feature which will offer customers the lowest price when booking certain flights.

Flights available through this new feature will be indicated with price guarantee badges. If, when booking a flight, you see the badge, this means that Google is confident that the price will not get any cheaper before takeoff.

If it does lower between purchase and departure, Google will send the difference through Google Pay. Google are currently testing the program on flights available to be booked with the ‘Book on Google’ itineraries departing from the US.

“No one likes to feel buyer’s remorse, and that’s especially true for a big purchase like plane tickets where the prices change from day to day”, a Google announcement reads.

“We’ve all thought to ourselves: Should I book now in case the price goes up tomorrow? Or should I wait in case there’s a better deal next week?”
