Fathers can stay near mother during childbirth

Mar 10 2021 Share

Speaking during TVAM, head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mater Dei Professor Yves Muscat Baron stated that the father can be near the mother during childbirth. Evening visits are also open for an hour. Baron reminded the public of last April with 50 cases active which lead to hospital visits being temporarily banned and fathers allowed only ten minutes to be present. Since cases seem to be increasing, along with the variant, the situation needs to be approached realistically.

Baron continued that the father can stay during the whole birthing process and then accompany the mother to her ward, after which he must leave. With opening hours being between 4pm and 6pm, the father is allowed an hour to stay. Due to the variant’s quicker spreading, no chances are to be taken.
