Sexually transmitted infections have seen an increase in cases as COVID-19 restrictions were eased. The increase was registered by about a third in recent months, as revealed by figures compiled by the GU clinic at Mater Dei Hospital. The spike also seems to coincide with an increase in patients handled by the clinic as the state hospital’s operations go back to normal. Valeska Padovese, who runs the clinic, said that an increase in bacterial STIs, mainly gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis, has been noted.

A year worth of data by the clinic revealed that, on average, confirmed cases of sexually transmitted infections stood at just over 200 monthly last year. The average dropped below 150 per month over the course of a few months. However, this spiked back up as authorities eased restrictions. Times of Malta reported a correlation between sexual activity, infections and restrictive social measures in 2020.

Ikea, known for their ingenious marketing strategies, have jumped onto the Cristiano Ronaldo Coca-Cola aversion train with another product. Calling it the Cristiano, Ikea released reusable bottles captioned ‘Cristiano, Reusable bottle for water only.’ This comes after the Portuguese football legend removed Coca-Cola bottles during a press conference and urged everyone to drink water instead of the soft drink.

Ikea’s latest stance did immensely well, as many jumped onto the opportunity to purchase the water bottles priced at $1.99. The Swedish retailer is no stranger to twisting famous internet incidents and memes into products. A similar stunt includes the ‘Get the Look’ campaign for those wishing to recreate the Bernie Sanders look by purchasing a folding chair and oven gloves.
