Famous Maltese COVID-19 nurses photo to become face of €2 heroes coin

A famous photo involving two Maltese ITU nurses which went viral during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic will become the face of a €2 commemorative coin. Dedicated to all the heroes who worked tirelessly agains the virus outbreak, and continue to do so, the image in question was first taken by nurse Diane Faenza. It showed ITU senior staff nurses Doreen Zammit and Charmaine Cauchi in an embrace, capturing all the pressure the pandemic placed on the healthcare system.

The image was promptly and widely shared following a repost by Times of Malta in April 2020. The decision to use this visual on the €2 coin to pay homage to the workers was confirmed by chief office for banking of Numismatics and Historical Publications Advisory Board (NHPAB) Jesmond Gatt. The image was also chosen by the Europe branch of the WHO to mark the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s simple gesture results in $4 billion loss for Coca-Cola

Portugese player Cristiano Ronaldo broke the internet after removing two Coca-Cola bottles during a press conference and promptly urging everyone to drink water. However, this simple manoeuvre and his dislike for soft drinks resulted in huge negative financial impact for the brand itself. Spanish outlet Marca reported that the share price of the company before and after the gesture led to billions of dollars in losses.

Coca Cola allegedly went from being worth $242 billion to $238 billion – a 1.6% drop for the company’s position on the stock market. The whopping $4 billion drop affected Coca-Cola’s shares so much that when the stock market opened at 3pm in Europe, the shares dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 per share. Coca-Cola have not yet commented on the incident.

Hungary vs Portugal match attended in full 61,000 capacity

Budapest’s Puskas Arena hosted a full capacity crowd of around 61,000 spectators yesterday during Hungary’s match against Portugal for the opening game of Euro 2020’s Group F. Despite Wembley only operating at 25% for last Sunday’s England vs Croatia, with the former emerging victorious, Hungary’s vaccination programme has prompted the national football association to allow full capacity. Hungary, its estimated, has around 5.3 million people out of its total 9.8 million vaccinated prior to Euro 2020’s start on June 11th.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban made use of vaccines from Russia and China to speed up the jab process and was thus able to ease restrictions ahead of the match. Indoor meetings, cinemas, theatres and restaurants are also open in Hungary for those who can prove immunity. International fans had to provide negative PCR test proof within 72 hours of the match.

X Factor Malta is back for season 3

Its official – X-Factor is back for its third edition in Malta. Despite not much information has been unveiled yet, the news has hit social media and singers are already gearing up to contest and try and make their way to victory.

The first season was won by Michela Pace, followed up by Destiny Chukunyere in the second season. Both represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest as Malta’s song ambassador.

We’ll have to see what talent will emerge through this exciting show which brings families and groups of people to enjoy a series all about music and art. We simply cannot wait!
