Family-Fun at Malta National Park Concert Area Open Weekend

Family-Fun at Malta National Park Concert Area Open Weekend
May 2 2024 Share

An open weekend will be held at the Malta National Park’s Concert Area on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May. The event, with family activities from 12:00 to 18:00 on both days, aims to introduce the newly renovated area to locals.

The Concert Area project involves a comprehensive transformation of a previously derelict site near the Ta’ Qali Formal Garden and National Stadium. The 16-million-euro redevelopment has converted the former concrete plant into one of Malta’s largest green spaces. The area now features a public open-air arena equipped to host large-scale concerts, with advanced lighting systems and other amenities.

Apart from concerts, the space is designed to serve as a recreational and leisure area for locals, including picnic facilities. Around 1,500 new trees and shrubs are being planted on the site, and rainwater collected in an underground reservoir irrigates the greenery. The concert area covers 36,370m², including a semi-natural turf system laid over the upper green space and a hard-paved standing area.

The project aims to provide both a concert venue for 20,000 people and a welcoming recreational area for daily enjoyment by the public.

Grech Mintoff first turned heads with such a move when he threw eggs at the Prime Minister’s feet during his Freedom Day speech, making some major waves on social media.

As he exited his post on the Sir Temi Zammit Hall stage, Grech Mintoff told the few students in attendance: “fight for your rights and don’t let anyone fool you” as he left the stage to an applause and a smile on his face.

The election debate was organised by Lovin Malta and Malta Today in collaboration with KSU.
