The police stations in San Ġwann, Msida, Swieqi, Ħal Għargħur, and Gżira remain closed, affecting approximately 55,000 residents in these growing localities.
During a press conference, Shadow Minister for Home Affairs Darren Carabott and Shadow Minister for Family and Social Security Albert Buttigieg alleged that these closures are impacting public safety, leading to rising concerns over vandalism, theft, and other security issues.
The closures have also reportedly placed additional pressure on nearby police stations in Sliema and St Julian’s, which are struggling to meet the heightened demands. While Community Police are working hard, they are allegedly unable to fully replace the services of dedicated stations.
The Partit Nazzjonalista has called on Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà to prioritize reopening the stations, claiming that this is essential for ensuring residents’ safety.
