Major Investments In Infrastructure And Community Projects

The Public Works Department has been allocated €19.4 million in the new budget, with a focus on crucial infrastructure projects.

Notable allocations include €8.5 million for enhancements to Ta’ Qali National Park, €3 million for improving public spaces, and €1.5 million for upgrades to the storm-water system.

Energy efficiency initiatives in public buildings will receive €500,000, while €300,000 is earmarked for coastal and marine studies.

Additionally, €400,000 is set aside for a community project aimed at children and youth, with further investments in essential equipment and property maintenance rounding out the budget.

Moreover, the government plans to strengthen its partnership with Local Councils through a historic €10 million agreement, allowing these councils to initiate impactful projects that will directly benefit residents in their communities.

The  priority is to better organize local roads and adapt to a modern economy that operates around the clock.

These proposals will focus on enhancing the coordination of roadworks, improving public transport, implementing effective parking schemes, reducing reliance on private cars, and promoting sustainable mobility.

In this regard, the government has already initiated national consultations with social partners.

Last week, the government held a specific meeting with the Maltese Council for Economic and Social Development to discuss these proposals.

This funding mainly aims to alleviate the costs associated with renting designated spaces for the construction of Carnival floats and the creation of grotesque masks, which are integral to the celebrations.
