Everything seems set for the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta to his the Final Four of the Men’s Water Polo Champions League from June 5th to 7th at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq.

Malta was chosen after the ASA’s application met all the European Aquatics Federation’s requirements, with support from the Maltese Government, SportMalta, and VisitMalta.

Education and Sports Minister Clifton Grima highlighted this achievement as a positive result of the government’s collaboration with sports associations, emphasizing Malta’s professionalism and high-quality sports infrastructure.

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo noted that hosting this international tournament will attract high-quality athletes and visitors, boosting sports tourism and visibility for the Maltese Islands.

The championship, which began in 1963, is the most prestigious competition for European professional water polo clubs. This year’s Final Four features Pro Recco (Italy), Novi Beograd (Serbia), Ferencvaros (Hungary), and Olympiacos (Greece).

A sports village will be set up at the National Pool entrance to enhance the spectator experience, opening at 17:00. The semifinals will take place at 19:00 and 21:00, with the third place match and final on June 7 at the same times.

€250,000 To Help Paralympic Athletes In Malta

Minister Clifton Grima announced a financial support scheme for Paralympic athletes, aimed at helping them acquire necessary sports equipment for training and competitions.

SportMalta will allocate €250,000 to the Maltese Paralympic Committee for this purpose. Recognising the unique challenges faced by Paralympic athletes in obtaining specialised equipment, Minister Grima emphasised that this initiative empowers athletes to reach their full potential and represent Malta internationally.

Many Paralympic athletes struggle with financial barriers in obtaining the appropriate sports equipment, despite existing support mechanisms like sponsorships and grants.

These often fail to fully meet the diverse needs of athletes across different sports disciplines. Julian Bajada, Secretary of the Maltese Paralympic Committee, highlighted the Committee’s efforts to provide athletes with the best opportunities, while Keith Bartolo, Vice Chairperson of SportMalta, discussed the ongoing financial and resource support provided to these athletes.

The government is committed to promoting inclusion in sports and assisting Paralympic athletes in achieving their goals. This initiative not only offers financial aid but also reinforces the values of equality and inclusion in society.

Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in a Peaky Blinders movie, following his Oscar win for Oppenheimer.

Netflix has officially greenlit the film, with Murphy starring and producing. Directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight, production will begin later this year in association with BBC Films.

The Bafta-winning series, which gained a global following on Netflix, has long been speculated to continue as a film. Knight previously hinted at a movie, and this confirmation marks the first official announcement. Murphy has expressed his eagerness to return, saying if there’s more story to tell, he’ll be involved.

While plot details remain undisclosed, Knight suggested the film would follow the series finale set during the Second World War.

The show’s six seasons covered the period from the end of World War I to the end of Prohibition in the US. Knight promised an explosive chapter for the film, with Murphy calling it gratifying to work with Knight and Harper again.

Peaky Blinders, which launched in 2013 and gained international fame on Netflix in 2014, features a strong cast including Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and the late Helen McCrory. Harper highlighted the series’ explosive nature and the excitement of reuniting with the team for the movie.
