Everton player arrested over alleged child sex offences

A first-team member of Everton’s squad has been suspended as he is being subject to inquiries by authorities over alleged child sex offences. The Premier League club confirmed the news, but no details were revealed regarding the player in question or any of the charges involved. The Premier League confirmed their assistance to the authorities in investigating the case.

Greater Manchester Police reportedly arrested the player earlier this month, confirming the arrest of a 31-year-old man on suspicion of child sex offences in a statement issued under the arrest. The police have yet to confirm whether the person was a player but the accused has been released on bail ‘pending enquiries.’

Brits to require full vaccination to enter nightclubs from September

The UK government has announced that people attending nightclubs and other venues where large crowds convene will need to be fully vaccinated from the end of September. With latest statistics indicating that 35% of 18 to 30-year-olds have not had their first jab, this new measure will require owners of nightclubs and other venues to ask for proof of vaccination. This announcement was made on the day nightclubs in England were allowed to reopen after a 16 month closure.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that he does not want to close nightclubs like other countries have. This, however, means that nightclubs must do the socially responsible thing, with the government having the right to mandate certification at any point to reduce spikes in transmission. The UK saw 39,950 cases recorded on Monday, along with 19 deaths. Due to nightclubs being possible super spreaders of the virus, the new restriction is aimed at mitigating spread, hospitalisation and death eve more.

WATCH: Paceville falls silent once more following new travel restrictions

Malta’s Entertainment Mecca was not long booming with life as people flocked to enjoy a night out after the pandemic’s heavy toll on socialising and partying. However, following the most recent restrictions on travel being implemented, Paceville has been affected quite badly as streets are seen barren.

Following the long draught of partying, the reignited spark of hope which was relit just a few weeks ago has seemingly faded once more. With language schools closing their doors following the news that most of the new cases came from clusters in said schools, travel has been heavily restricted to the island. Air Malta also reported over 6000 flight booking cancellations back in July 16th. Paceville is of course not the only entertainment hub affected by this change, as bars, clubs and other establishments around the island have been impacted as well.

Quarantined teenage students in Mater Dei for food poisoning

Two 17-year-old Slovakian students quarantined in Malta were rushed to Mater Dei Hospital after experiencing food poisoning. The girls were quarantined at a Pembroke residential facility run by a language school, where they were served undercooked chicken on Saturday, resulting in hospitalisation. They were diagnosed with gastroenteritis, with one of them being separated from her 14-year-old sister after also testing positive for COVID-19. The 14-year-old is quarantining on her own.

One of the teenagers, Luisa Ticha, spoke to Times of Malta, saying she only at the breaded chicken because she was hungry and it was the only food on offer. The language school, Sprachcaffe Languages Plus, also admitted there was an issue with the food. Luisa stated that she is truly disappointed at the situation. ‘[She] never imagined [she] would end up quarantined, much less in hospital.’

Asked about the food poisoning, the language school said that students were being given three meals a day, admitting that they were aware there had been an issue with the food. The girl’s mother expressed her distress at the current situation, begging authorities to let the sisters quarantine together as, since they are forced to stay, can bear the long time period together.
