Evacuation Precautions For Buildings Close To Collapse

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) are continuing to monitor the situation in Triq Paceville, St Julian’s, where a building collapsed next to a demolition site.

The BCA and OHSA, in coordination with the Police, Civil Protection Department (CPD), and Mater Dei Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, are carrying out a precautionary evacuation of additional properties within the affected area.

Temporary alternative accommodation is being offered to residents.

Both authorities remain on site to assist those impacted by the incident and are taking further steps to safeguard nearby residents.

Their priority remains the wellbeing of the public and the enforcement of all safety measures, the statement reads.

A dedicated emergency helpline has been set up for those affected: 99097867.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues and the situation develops.

Chiara – yes, Eurovision ‘Angel’ Chiara – is returning to the music industry with brand new song after over a decade!

The name of the song is ‘Kuljum’, and even though it is a song the Maltese know really well through originally in English, it has been translated to Maltese by Kurt Calleja.

Speaking to Malta Daily, it was revealed that the process of creating this song was an emotional one following some health challenges for Chiara in 2024.

Chiara has since found a lot of strength from her family, closest friends, and her spiritual journey.

The song will be dropping on June 20th – so mark your calendars!

Luke Dalli Appointed New Arts Council Malta Executive Chairperson

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici has appointed Dr Luke Dalli as the new Executive Chairperson of Arts Council Malta. He will take over from Albert Marshall, who has decided to step into a new role within the Council after years of dedicated service.

Mr Marshall has played a key part in strengthening Malta’s cultural and creative sectors. He will now continue contributing to the Council as a consultant, ensuring the organisation continues to benefit from his experience and deep understanding of the cultural landscape.

Minister Bonnici thanked Mr Marshall for his years of outstanding service and welcomed his continued involvement in this new capacity.

Dr Dalli, aged 36, is a lawyer with expertise in intellectual property law and public procurement. He has held senior roles at Arts Council Malta for over a decade, including Head of Legal Affairs and Chief Operating Officer.

Wishing him success in his new role, Minister Bonnici said he looks forward to working with Dr Dalli, the management team and all employees to continue building a cultural and creative sector that supports and nurtures Maltese and Gozitan artists.
