Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism has announced that Malta will be sending 250 tonnes of flour to the people of Gaza in the coming weeks, as part of its ongoing humanitarian support. Over the last five years, Malta’s total aid to the Palestinian people has exceeded €1.1 million.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, visited the flour mills in Marsa where 10,000 sacks of flour are being prepared for shipment. The consignment will first be sent to Limassol, Cyprus, before being transported onwards to Gaza. This operation is being carried out in collaboration with the Government of Cyprus and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The first shipment is expected to depart from the Malta Freeport next week. Upon arrival in Gaza, the flour will be distributed to civilians by the international humanitarian organisation World Central Kitchen.

Deputy Prime Minister Borg emphasised Malta’s stance: “Hunger must never be used as a weapon of war. The international community must come together to remove all obstacles hindering the delivery of life-saving aid to the people of Gaza.”

Over the past five years, Malta has allocated more than €1.1 million in aid to Palestine. This includes annual financial contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as well as donations to UNICEF, World Central Kitchen, and other international organisations supporting Palestinian communities. Malta also continues to provide University of Malta scholarships to Palestinian students.

Malta’s total aid to the Palestinian territories in 2025 is expected to reach approximately €350,000.

The National Business Support Award ceremony took place, honouring organisations and initiatives that have made significant contributions to the development of business in Malta.

The event was attended by the Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, who emphasised the Government’s ongoing commitment over the past twelve years to supporting businesses, especially during times of challenge. He highlighted the importance of designing regulations intelligently to reduce administrative burdens rather than increase them. “Together with businesses, we have built a strong, sustainable and innovative economy.” said Minister Schembri.

He also noted that over the past decade, Malta’s economy has grown substantially, from €7 billion to €24 billion, placing the country in a strong position to pursue greater ambitions.

This vision is reflected in Malta’s Vision 2050, with specific targets to be achieved by 2035.

The Selection Committee for the National Business Support Award chose European Services Malta and Tech.mt Foundation as the highest scoring initiatives to represent Malta at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2025, to be held later this year in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was also announced that the Migrant Women Association received the National Honorary Mention Certificate.

This year’s increase in applicants reflects the ongoing growth of Malta’s economic activity, with consistent year-on-year production increases.

Governmental organisations also decided to award the prize money won to the NGOs: Puttinu Cares Foundation, Equal Partners Foundation, and the Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (MSPCA).

Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that the irregularity detected in the sewage system of the public convenience at the Fajtata bathing site has been successfully rectified.

Following investigations conducted by Environmental Health Officers, repeated seawater sampling over recent days has confirmed that the bathing site at Location Code A07 Fajtata, Qaliet Street, Marsaskala, now meets all safety standards and is once again deemed fit for bathing. Consequently, the previous health warning has been lifted.
