The agreement, known as ‘BRIDGEforEU’, addresses long-standing challenges faced by cross-border workers, patients, and businesses—such as difficulties in accessing healthcare, delays in the transportation of goods, and administrative hurdles.

Under the new framework, individuals will be able to report such barriers, enabling EU member states to work together on practical, coordinated solutions.

The initiative reflects the principle that Europe must serve all its citizens equally, not just a select few. While it may be a modest step in legislative terms, it marks a meaningful improvement in the daily lives of many across the European Union.

Cleaning Works At San Klement Bastion Underway

Cleaning Works At San Klement Bastion Underway

A major clean-up operation is underway at a historic part of the San Klement Bastion in Bormla, as government entities join forces to restore and repurpose the site. The initiative follows an agreement between the Lands Authority and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division, aimed at rehabilitating long-neglected public structures.

The site, which includes a historic warehouse forming part of Cottonera’s important fortification system, had been sealed off for years. The current works involve clearing accumulated bulky waste, internal cleaning, and implementing safety measures to allow workers to operate in secure conditions.

Minister for Lands Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi described the intervention as a significant step toward preserving and better utilising state-owned historic buildings. He noted that such efforts will eventually allow these spaces to be returned to local communities in new, meaningful ways.

Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield emphasised the power of inter-agency collaboration, highlighting how different departments can work together to deliver results that benefit the public.

This clean-up is the first in a series of similar interventions planned across Malta. It reflects a broader government strategy to safeguard heritage sites while making them more accessible to the public.

Lands Authority CEO Robert Vella and Cleansing Division Director General Ramon Deguara also attended the site visit.

esc_news_ released a statement giving us the first details of Miriana’s staging for her performance of SERVING at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The statement reveals that whilst ‘The Sound of Music’ remains an inspiration, the visual storytelling seen at MESC has mostly gone.

‘Firstly there’s a big prop – a set of huge sparkly red lips holding a spinning disco ball – the whole structure is probably three metres high and sits in the centre of the stage’, the statement reveals.

‘It turns at the start and Miriana is inside, wearing a bright yellow dress with a huge skirt made from tiered netting with black sleeves.’

Miriana is subsequently lifted out of the disco ball and the dress tor reveal a catsuit that is the same style as that seen during MESC, but is now black and red and very sparkly.

Oh, and her hair is bright red – ‘the whole thing feels like a transition from poisonous flower to queen of hearts.’

The dance is reportedly very similar to MESC, but the four dancers have swapped the Von Trapp outfits for red fishnets, strappy black underwear and red fur jackets.

‘The final chorus plays out on the frame stage, where the red gym balls appear for a bouncy finish.’

A massive ‘DIVA NOT DOWN’ will appear in the end – ‘the whole thing is very Miriana.’

We CANNOT WAIT to see!

Court Approves Marsaskala Waste Plant Transformation Into Park

Court Approves Marsaskala Waste Plant Transformation Into Park
May 6 2025 Share

WasteServ has welcomed a Court of Appeal ruling that paves the way for the transformation of the former Sant’ Antnin waste treatment plant in Marsaskala into a public green park.

The decision follows a legal challenge by Vassallo Builders Ltd, which contested the awarding of a tender for WasteServ’s largest-ever greening initiative. The court rejected all claims made by the company, allowing the project to proceed after months of delay.

The €20 million redevelopment project will convert 23,800 square metres of the former industrial site into landscaped terrain with mature trees, shrubs, and an artificial lake designed to attract biodiversity and create a peaceful environment.

A 175-metre retaining wall will be built to separate the park from adjacent areas, while three reservoirs will be constructed to manage irrigation, storm water, and firefighting needs.

Part of the site will also be excavated for a three-storey car park with electric park-and-ride services. Around 33% of the excavated material will be reused on site, reflecting WasteServ’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.

With full development permits already in place, works are expected to begin once the contract is signed in the coming days.
